How no-guess boards work
A no-guess board can be solved with logic alone. You never have to gamble on a coin flip.
Your first click is always safe and always opens an area. The mines are placed after it.
Before you see the board, a solver plays it from that click, using only the numbers and the mine counter. If it ever has to guess, the board is thrown out and a new one is made.
An Expert board usually takes about eight tries. You only see the one that passed.
How often do random boards need a guess?
We generated 3,000 random boards for each size, each with a safe first click, and checked how many our solver could clear by logic alone.

So on a regular Expert board, a guess is likely, not just possible. Our solver gives up on very large tangled areas, so a patient human might rescue a few more. On this page, every board is in the solvable column.
No-guess or regular?
Regular boards are the original game. Losing to a 50/50 is part of the deal, and plenty of players like it that way.
No-guess boards are for when you want every loss to be your own. You can switch any time under Options, above the board. It works on the homepage too.

What is no-guess Minesweeper?
A board that can be solved with logic alone, from the first click to the last tile. Every board here is checked by a solver before you see it.
Is no-guess Minesweeper easier?
Fewer losses, same work. No-guess boards need about the same number of clicks as random ones. You just never lose to a 50/50.
Can I still hit a mine?
Yes, if you open a tile the numbers didn’t prove safe. The board is solvable. Solving it is still your job.
Is the daily challenge no-guess?
Yes. All three daily boards are no-guess and the same for everyone.
Do I need to download anything?
No. It runs in your browser, free, with no sign-up.
